YMCA Taranaki has a fixed term vacancy of 40 hours per week for a Youth Education Tutor , from the 19th February 2018 until the 7th September 2018 due to parental leave cover. We are looking for a person to work with our youth in our Youth Guarantee programme. The person will be responsible for delivering high quality services with a YMCA values driven approach and providing a wide range of learning opportunities to motive students to academic achievement. Applicants will need the following attributes:
- A relevant qualification in teaching, youth work or adult education.
- At least 3 years’ experience working with youth.
- Ability to engage and motivate/inspire young people from diverse backgrounds.
- High standard of professionalism and integrity.
- Knowledge and understanding of NZ education standards including NZQA and NCEA 1 & 2.
- Experience of carrying out assessment of learners in line with NCEA and NZQA standards, internal and external moderation and keeping relevant records.
- Experience of finding, designing and adapting relevant teaching and learning materials and incorporating project based learning into an active learning environment.
- Full driver’s licence is essential with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
- Strict adherence to health and safety standards and procedures.
- Excellent organisation, time management skills and/or experience in people management.
- Strong administration, communication and computer skills.
- First aid certificate or willing to obtain one.
The following qualifications are preferred but not essential:
- Unit Standard 4098 or be willing to work towards obtaining it.
- National Certificate in Adult Numeracy & Literacy Education and Training Level 5 or New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching Level 5 or working towards the qualification.

The ideal person will deliver a youth development programme that will assist young people to acquire new skills while increasing confidence and motivation, through supporting their active participation and accessing further education, employment and training. This position requires a person with a case management approach who can develop and implement individualised plans that meets the needs of the youth and provides measurable positive outcomes. Applicants will need the following attributes:
• At least 2 years’ experience of case management.
• 2-3 years’ experience working with youth.
• Relevant social work, teaching or youth qualification (Diploma level or above). • Able to assess and analyse information to make informed decisions.
• Experience in conducting assessments and developing individual plans.
• Experience in developing and delivering a curriculum programme that meets the needs of the individual.
• High standard of professionalism and integrity.
• Ability to work autonomously and part of a team to achieve set outcomes. • Experience in developing and maintain strong relationships with community and government agencies.
• Strict adherence to health and safety standards and procedures.
• Excellent computer and communication skills (written and oral). • Ability to work with a diverse range of people and services.
• Is results focussed.
• Has cultural awareness.
• Proven ability to produce reports at a high level and maintaining reporting procedures.
• Knowledge of court processes, experience in advocating on behalf of youth and Family Group Conferences.
• Full clean driver’s licence is essential.

The role is for 2.5 to 4 hours per week on Monday nights between the hours of 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm for the 40 weeks that the YMCA Netball League competition normally operates in any year. The successful candidate will require the following skills and attributes:
- At least 2 years’ experience in umpiring netball
- At least 2 years’ experience playing sports
- Ability to umpire people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds
- Be physically fit.
- A current first aid certificate or be prepared to obtain one.
- People orientated and customer facing.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships.
- Ability to resolve problems and make decisions
- Flexibility to work evenings.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to interact and relate to a wide range of people.

YMCA Taranaki currently provides Before and After School Care & Holiday Programme services in New Plymouth, based at local primary schools and at YMCA Taranaki’s venue. These services provide safe and enjoyable care for children before and after school and during the holidays. We currently have a casual position for an Out of School Care & Holiday Programme Assistant. Rostered hours vary between 7.30 am to 8.30 am for before school care, 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm for after school care service (term time only) and between 7.30 am to 5.30 pm (school holidays) for Holiday Programmes. The successful applicants will have:
- Experience in working with children
- Responsible and reliable
- Caring and friendly
- Reliable transport
- Good personal presentation
- Current first aid certificate desirable but not essential
